What about Search Engine Optimization
Search engine optimization is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to your web site from search engines search results.
Typically, the earlier or higher a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search and industry-specific vertical search engines. This gives a web site web presence.
As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a web site primarily involves editing its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.
Here are some of the SEO tools available, and elements of your web site we address.
Title Tags
This is one of the most known onsite tips; however it is still largely overlooked especially in ecommerce web sites. All your title tags on you’re your web site must be unique, short and contain the key phrase you are optimizing that page for.
Description Tags
Another well-known optimization technique, although again not used to its full potential. Your listings that appear in the search engine results pages are in effect an advert for your web site so should be treated as such. Always include a call to action to entice the searcher to click on your listing.
Heading Tags
You should always follow proper procedures when it comes to heading tags always give the page content a heading and try and include a key phrase within the heading and use proper code, for the most important heading give it a h1 tag and use h2,h3, h4 etc as sub headings within your content.
Anchor Text
The use of anchor text in external links is common place. However this should also be used on your own web site. When linking to another page on your web site use key phrase rich anchor text in the page content. If you don’t how do you expect a search engine to think that your web site is relevant for your key phrases if your own web site doesn't? Check out Wikipedia for a good example of this.
Sitemap.html
All web sites should include an HTML site map; this will also help the search engines index your web site. If you have a large amount of pages on your web site arrange you site map in categories and create more than one page. Don’t just create a list of your web site pages as this isn't much help to your web site visitor.
Navigation
Avoid linking to every web page from every other web page on your web site. When linking from your homepage, link to your most important pages and from these sub pages link to other pages within your web site. As the search engines will see which pages you consider important on your web site, also from these sub pages link back to your most important pages.
Content
This is an important one, create unique engaging content for your web site that your visitors will find interesting. You should also add content on a regular basis as this will give your web site more exposure in the search engines as if you have 10 pages on your web site that’s 10 opportunities people will have to find your web site, although don’t add content for the sake of adding content, only add it when you have something interesting to add. |
