pageAccess
combines a secure commerce server (described below), encryption,
and proprietary technologies. This enables you to accept payments
securely without the need to store account information.
What is a Secure Server?
A secure commerce server takes advantage
of Secure Socket Layers (SSL), a protocol developed by Netscape
Communications Corporation for transmitting private documents via
the Internet. SSL uses private and public key cryptography to encrypt
data before it is transferred over the Internet from the user's
browser to a server. Browsers such as Netscape's Navigator® and
Microsoft Corporation's Internet Explorer™ support the SSL protocol.
Many websites use SSL to obtain confidential user information such
as credit card numbers.
A major misconception regarding Internet commerce
security is that information submitted to a server via the SSL protocol
is always safe. That is not true. The SSL protocol protects information
only while it is being transmitted from the browser to the server.
As soon as the information reaches the server, SSL has no effect
on the security of the information. If no encryption takes place
when the information reaches the server, the security of the information
is compromised.
Unsurpassed Security
Most merchants accepting online payments do not have access to a
secure server. Even fewer utilize encryption techniques. By using
pageAccess
, a merchant has immediate access
to a secure server and advanced encryption technologies.
When making a purchase, your customer completes
your online form and submits the order. The information is encrypted
and delivered to pageAccess'
secure commerce server via SSL.
If the order is placed using RediCharge, the credit
card account information is re-encrypted and pushed to an offline
server for real-time processing. pageAccess
authorizes the card and processes
the order in seconds. If the account information is valid, the customer
is allowed to proceed. Funds are deposited directly into your bank
account.
If the order is placed using pageAccess
Electronic Funds Transfer, the bank account information is
immediately re-encrypted and pushed to an offline server for processing.
The system immediately validates the information. If it is valid,
the customer is allowed to proceed. Funds are then transferred from
your customer's bank account into your own.
After account information has been authorized
and processed, pageAccess
generates an email message to the
customer listing the items ordered and the order total. A similar
message is generated and sent to you, containing the customer's
name, address, email address, line items, and order total.
